GRIDIMP HEAD TO CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Gridimp head to Cape Town, South Africa to tackle 'Load Shedding'.

Last month some of our operations and technical team members were in Cape Town, South Africa - to meet with our project partners Andeon & Xavier from GreenSun Renewable Energy to commission our first deployment at the GreenSun offices.

Whilst in Cape Town Edward and Nathan surveyed a selection of sites provided by GreenSun that we are looking to deploy our smart microgrid technology too. Our solutions are to help combat rolling energy black outs in South Africa known as ‘load shedding’.

A constant stream of near-daily blackouts (load shedding) means millions of people across South Africa are being left without electricity to do even basic tasks like cooking, working, washing or for emergency services saving lives.

By introducing Gridimp’s technology we automate the control of plant & equipment to form smart micro grids that minimise the impact of black outs. By ensuring local energy is generated & storage discharged to cover blackout periods and that the right plant is turned down or off during load shedding periods we maximise resilience.  Importantly it also means protecting equipment when the grid comes back on.

These installations, supported by Innovate UK Energy Catalyst (an Innovate UK programme), will allow us to help a number of sites. We are also delighted to have sites provided by Hessequa Municipality, demonstrating their commitment to lead the way in looking at new solutions to solve the energy challenges faced across the region.

From our Technical Director Edward Ross:

"It was very productive to work alongside the Greensun team to begin installation work at their office and survey new locations. I'm very much looking forward to delivering on the exciting opportunities identified, working in partnership with Greensun to alleviate load shedding effects on individual premises and provide support to the municipal power grids to reduce load shedding for all energy consumers."
