Local Heritage Site Looks to Gridimp for Guidance

Wells Cathedral (Wells, Somerset) has enlisted the services of Gridimp to assist them with their journey to reducing carbon usage and become smart energy consumers. The Church of England has set targets for all sites to be in a position to achieve Net Zero by 2030.

The Church of England defines Net Zero Carbon as the reduction as far as possible of all in-scope carbon emissions (from the oil, gas and electricity they use in their buildings and petrol/diesel transport).

The project aim is to help the Cathedral and its surrounding buildings become flexible, smart energy consumers.

Key Objectives:

Achieve year on year reductions in emissions.

Respond to real-time market signals saving carbon & money.

Real time energy monitoring.

Become smart, forward thinking and increase resilience.

Fulfil reporting obligations and data verification.

The Gridimp Project Summary:

We have installed 3 impCabinets at separate locations across the estate to provide real time energy monitoring with circuit level detailing for full breakdown analysis of consumption.

Our hardware is powered by our smart AI hub – the impHub. This hub supports digital communications allowing it to perform energy monitoring, automated control and interface with onsite plant and equipment.

Along with the impCabinets & impHub we have provided smart IoT sensors. These sensors will provide real time temperature and humidity readings across multiple levels of the Cathedral. The IoT sensors will talk directly to our impHub which will then give a greater level of control of the on site energy usage.

Quote from Jonathan Swayer (Development Director at Wells Cathedral)

We are really looking forward to working with Gridimp to improve our energy usage as we work towards our net zero targets. Having such an innovative smart energy business on our doorstep has been invaluable, particularly as Gridimp have made partnership working so easy.

This is an exciting project for us to be working on and we look forward to bring you further updates throughout the year.
